▪️Laura spent the first decade of her career in event management. She had dreamed of a taking up a trade but, like many young women, was encouraged to take the more traditional route of college education and office-based work.
▫️A cross-country relocation meant Laura found herself out of work. She took the opportunity to retrain, signing up to a Basic Welding class.
▪️The trade really appealed to her love of practical, craft-focused work and she has since gone on to complete Intermediate Welding and Coded Pipe Welding courses.
▫️Laura said, “Welding has helped me realize that I’m much more at home in the workshop than in the office. Despite having never welded before, I’m now a Coded Pipe Welder and really love what I do. Although welding is still a male-dominated industry, tradeswomen are becoming more visible on sites, in workshops and online and that gives me so much heart”.
▪️ @lauraredrua Thank you so much for sharing your inspiring story! I’m so glad you took the opportunity to join a trade! I look forward to watching you rock the hell out of pipe welding!
